Oh, Nashville...

Everyone check out the Hot Chicken Festival in East Park tomorrow. Details from the Tennessean below. Bolton's rules. We went to the festival last year and it was packed. My question is: Does hot chicken exist outside of Nashville? Or is a phenomenon local only to our taste buds?

People from all over town will gather July 4 for the gastronomic delight known as hot chicken.

The Music City Hot Chicken Festival will bring chicken lovers to East Park from 1-3 p.m. July 4. This free event offers samples of the local staples from restaurants such as The Chicken Shack, Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish, Prince's Hot Chicken Shack and more.

Six amateurs will face off in a hot chicken cooking competition, to be judged by owners of hot chicken restaurants.

Bill Purcell, former mayor of Nashville and Hot Chicken Festival founder, Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors and Prince's Hot Chicken Shack owner Andre Prince will serve as festival chairs.

If interested in volunteering, send an e-mail to hotchickenfestival@gmail.com. Volunteers are needed for two hours shifts between 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

There's also a Nashville Hot Chicken website, which I suppose will answer my query about the geographic origin/location of "hot chicken." All I do know is, it's hot. It's good going in, but really, it kills later. Perhaps I'm too sensitive. Or it's just too darn hot.
