Verdict

The Small Rain

Madeline L'Engle

What a beautiful book. I have previously only read her young adult novels, and loved them, but I am now finding the adult fiction she wrote just as thrilling. The novel follows the coming of age of Katherine Forrester, daughter of a famous pianist and composer. She is inundated with the artistic life, and grows up to be an artist in her own right. L'Engle treats her characters with such delicacy - they're so vivid. I am now reading the sequel, written many years later, called The Severed Wasp. Thanks, Nashville Public Library!
