Hankering

I don't know anything about sewing machines, but I pick this one. I've been dying to learn.

I like that it has "heavy-duty" in its title: Brother SQ9000 Heavy-duty Computerized Sewing Machine

These are okay machines, but you're better off with a mechanical machine. A standard mechanical machine is actually substantially more "heavy duty" than a heavy duty computerized one. The key is metal gears and computerized machines, especially Brother ones tend to have plastic gears.

You should be able to find a good, solid, working Kenmore, Singer or Brother mechanical machine at an thrift store for about $25.
